The Cultural Institutions Group, a collective of 34 arts and culture organizations located in New York City, stands in solidarity with Mr. Floyd’s family, the Black community, and all those yearning for a more peaceful, just, fair and equitable world.
Today’s conviction of Derek Chauvin in the murder of George Floyd is a step in the important fight against systemic racism, inequity and injustice. There is still much work to be done. The demands for change at this critical moment draw on legacies rooted in the long history of the fight against racism and injustice in our city and nation.
We will continue to shine a light on these issues through our exhibitions, partnerships and programming. Not only will we hold ourselves accountable to the communities we reflect and serve through our public-facing work, but we will also continue to advance the goals of equity, diversity, access and inclusion within our own institutions, and together as a coalition, with the intention of contributing to a better future for all New Yorkers.
