This will be achieved by envisioning and producing meaningful exhibitions and initiatives, and curating the collection to enrich our understanding of history within a broader societal context. The Curator is an information broker who will lead the expansion and formalization of the outward-facing public access points for exhibitions, collections, and curatorial programs in order to create a space of shared power. This will all be done in alignment with Historic Richmond Town’s mission. Reporting to the Curator is a support team that includes the Collections Manager and Collections Care Officer.

Museum Instructor / Curatorial Assistant—Arts of Africa, Asia, and the Islamic World

Working with the curatorial staff for three collection areas, the Curatorial Assistant for Arts of Africa, Asia, and the Islamic World assists with collection- and exhibition-related projects. The Curatorial Assistant conducts and assists with scholarly research and writing, and supports the administration of collections in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies, visual culture, anthropology, or a related humanities discipline, or two to three years of experience in a museum or other cultural organization
Highly detail-oriented, organized, and able to prioritize among multiple projects
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience with collaborative projects
Background in scholarly research and writing
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic office functions (e.g., scanning, filing)

Assistant Curator of Egyptian, Classical, and Near Eastern Art—Art Division

The Brooklyn Museum seeks an emerging curator of Egyptian art, focused primarily on art and material culture produced in Egypt and Nubia, as well as in the Ancient Near East and the Classical world prior to the fourth century C.E. The Assistant Curator will work closely with the Curator of Egyptian, Classical, and Ancient Near Eastern art to envision, interpret, and build on the significant legacy of one of the Brooklyn Museum’s oldest and most celebrated collections. The successful candidate will be an engaged curator and scholar of Egyptian art with a commitment to innovative and expansive research and thinking and to art historical narratives previously marginalized across the field. Especially welcome are candidates with an ability to conceptualize original, canon-expanding, and timely collection exhibitions that offer fresh perspectives on ancient art for twenty-first-century audiences. In addition to proposing ideas for in-house and touring exhibitions both for the department and as collaborations with other collections, the Assistant Curator will support the exhibitions’ development and implementation, strengthen the collection through research and acquisition, and cultivate patrons, working collaboratively and holistically to bring all aspects of projects together cross-institutionally. They will actively engage with collectors and patrons, professional colleagues, partner institutions, and the Brooklyn community.

Their work will incorporate and amplify the voices, narratives, and perspectives of Museum audiences to present diverse beliefs, cultures, and experiences to ensure that the Museum can achieve its goal of becoming a conduit for open sharing and learning and a place for courageous conversations.

Curator and Community Liaison, Chinese Initiatives

FTH seeks a flexible full-time Curator and Community Liaison, Chinese Initiatives. FTH’s definition of Chinese is inclusive of, and not limited to people who are of Chinese descent and self-identify as Chinese/Chinese-American. Henceforth in the job description, FTH uses the word Chinese to represent these diverse, self-identifying distinctions. This position will program a wide range of disciplines and artistic practices of traditional, contemporary and cross-cultural arts programs, highlighting and celebrating the rich and far-ranging cultural identities of being Chinese, and amplifying often underrepresented artistic voices. The position will also engage Chinese and non-Chinese communities through programs and partnerships. The position supports and works closely with leadership and other FTH departments including Development, Marketing, Education, Arts Services, Production and Finance.
