Director of Media & Communications

The Director of Media & Communications is a highly motivated professional responsible for planning and executing communications activities that enhance the Studio Museum in Harlem’s visibility and credibility among diverse local, national, and global audiences. This role supports the Museum’s revenue and audience goals while strategically advancing its brand. Reporting to the Chief Advancement & External Affairs Officer, the Director oversees the development of a comprehensive, integrated press strategy leading up to the opening of the Museum’s new building in fall 2025.

Key responsibilities include managing day-to-day media relations, social media, digital strategy, and departmental and institutional writing. This position oversees a team of four direct reports: the Associate Director of Digital Marketing & Communications, Writer/Press Officer, Senior Graphic Designer, and Senior Coordinator of Digital Content and Social Media.

Senior Manager of Membership & Annual Giving

The Senior Manager of Membership & Annual Giving is responsible for developing, managing, and executing a comprehensive and integrated membership and annual giving program. The Senior Manager will establish strategic objectives and implement short-and long-term tactics, including direct mail, email, social, web, and advertising, that leverage the Studio Museum’s brand and mission. The selected candidate will effectively grow awareness of the Studio Museum’s annual giving program, develop, and implement a bespoke membership program, and increase our portfolio of donors as we enter this exciting next phase in the institution’s history, with the opening of our new Museum building in fall 2025. This position reports to the Director of Individual Giving, works directly and indirectly with all Development team members, as well as across all Museum departments as necessary.

Senior Graphic Designer

The Studio Museum in Harlem is seeking a Senior Graphic Designer to lead creative production and enhance the institution’s standing as a 21st-century museum committed to championing and nurturing Black artistic vision. As a key contributor to shaping and maintaining the Museum’s brand and visual identity, the Senior Graphic Designer will work as part of the Communications team while collaborating with internal stakeholders to identify needs and produce visually compelling and well-designed assets.

Development Manager

Queens Botanical Garden’s Development Team is responsible for raising funds to support the Garden. As a key member of the Development Team, the Development Manager will engage in grant writing, individual giving, and special events to support the growth of the Garden’s annual operating budget. The ideal candidate will be an experienced fundraiser capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. They will be an exceptional writer, a strong project manager, and a passionate champion for QBG’s work to offer environmental education programs, cultural experiences, and a healthful green space to Queens residents, all New Yorkers, and visitors. They will be comfortable communicating verbally and in writing with institutional donors, individual donors, Trustees, gala attendees, and QBG Members. The Development Manager reports to the Director of Development and supervises the Membership Coordinator.

Institutional Giving Coordinator

Queens Botanical Garden’s Development Team is responsible for raising funds for the Garden. As a key member of the Development Team, the Institutional Giving Coordinator will work to meet—and strive to exceed—annual fundraising goals by securing institutional support for education, horticulture, environmental, and cultural programs as well as technological, planning, and capital initiatives. The Coordinator will report to the Director of Development and work closely with the Development Manager, Executive Director, Deputy Director, Director of Programs, and other key staff members. The Coordinator will be a gifted writer with the ability to synthesize complex institutional goals into compelling narratives for current and prospective funders and will be at ease interacting with institutional donors. In a role that also requires coordination and communication with nearly all QBG departments, the ideal candidate will also exhibit a passion for the Garden’s multifaceted mission— especially our cultural programming, sustainability and environmental initiatives, and educational and youth development work—, a collegial spirit, and strong time management skills.

Artistic Programming Coordinator

The Artistic Programming Coordinator (APC) works closely with the Director & Senior Curator of the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art in the planning, development, and implementation of exhibitions, residencies, performances, and related programs. The APC is a creative, intrepid, organized and intellectually curious individual who is committed to the arts on Staten Island.

The ideal candidate will have experience organizing arts programming in the visual and performing arts in non-traditional venues, and enjoys working with artists, guest curators, and organizational partners. The APC is knowledgeable about broad contemporary art subjects and practices, and is adept at working on multiple projects simultaneously. This position works collaboratively with other departments including Community Impact, External Affairs, Finance & Administration, and Operations & Facilities.

The APC is a dynamic individual with an interdisciplinary approach to arts programming. Candidates should be enterprising and self-motivated, with strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven workplace. Candidates should have experience producing exhibitions, performances, panel discussions, artist talks, workshops, and residencies. This position requires the flexibility to work weekends and evenings to facilitate and/or represent the organization at events and community programming.

This position reports to the Director & Senior Curator of the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art.

Director of Programs

The Director of Programs will be responsible for developing, leading, and overseeing all education and public programs for Queens Botanical Garden. As the Garden prepares to break ground on a $32 million Education Center in late spring 2025, the Director of Programs will work with the Executive Director, Education and Public Programs teams to innovate programmatic offerings that reflect the Garden’s mission as the place where “people, plants, and cultures meet” and build upon our respected environmental education programs, dynamic public programs, sustainable management and operations, and culturally responsive activities. The Education Center, which will include a 16,000 square foot building and its surrounding landscapes, presents a critical moment of growth and opportunity for the Garden’s programs. The Director of Programs will harness the unique attributes of the Garden’s 39 acres, including the upcoming Education Center, to strengthen and expand upon the Garden’s current suite of programs. Their leadership will further solidify QBG’s role as the premier place of environmental education, cultural experiences, and unexpected, interactive encounters with the natural world in the heart of Queens.

Reporting to the Executive Director, and working closely with the Director of Development, Deputy Director/Director of Operations, and other key staff, the Director of Programs will provide leadership of all program development and operations, ensure program quality of the highest level, build partnerships with schools, non-profits, institutions, and other stakeholders, and work to bring in resources for QBG education and public programs. The Director of Programs will be a member of the Garden’s five-person senior leadership team, and must be versed in organizational leadership and management practices.

Head Registrar

The Head Registrar is an essential leadership position responsible for overseeing the art-related operations, management, documentation, and care of the Museum's collection. This includes the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the permanent collection, as well as incoming and outgoing loans to the Museum. This role ensures the highest standards of collections management while leading a dedicated team. Strong candidates for the position will have extensive knowledge of museum registration practices, a keen interest in contemporary art history, and a commitment to the Museum’s mission.

STEM Engagement Coordinator

The STEM Engagement Coordinator will work collaboratively with various teams across the institution to develop, promote, and facilitate events aimed at establishing NYSCI as a resource for young people in the surrounding community. This role is responsible for the development and execution of virtual and in-person events with the goals of broadening access and awareness of STEM topics and career pathways.

Mellon Collection Fellow

The Studio Museum in Harlem seeks a Collection Fellow to work under the supervision of the Registrar’s Office to assist with object research and acquisition documentation of the permanent collection. The Fellow will provide cataloging support for the Collection & Exhibitions Management team and maintain acquisition and loans files for the permanent collection. The role offers hands on data and object management training in permanent collection documentation which includes verifying tombstone information and linking object condition reports, installation information, insurance details, and rights and reproduction notes. The role will provide an opportunity to learn how to navigate our TMS Collections database, prepare artwork for its institutional ingestion, as well as support inaugural exhibition activities. The one-year position will offer an emerging professional insight into collection care decision making.  

Director’s Office Coordinator, Special Projects

The Studio Museum in Harlem seeks a Director’s Office Coordinator, Special Projects, to join a fast-paced executive support team at an exciting time for the museum. The DOC (Director's Office Coordinator) maintains a portfolio of special projects to advance the Director’s Office priorities under the direction of the Chief of Staff and the General Counsel & Chief Operating Officer. This role requires a blend of administrative executive support skills and innovative project management abilities, making it ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, creative environment. In addition, the DOC is responsible for creating effective presentations with a strong visual identity that reflects the Director’s editorial sensibilities.

Farm Manager

The QBG Farm grows fruits and vegetables with a focus on soil health and care, without the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. Crops harvested are 90-100% donated to emergency food relief. The Farm Manager will be responsible for preparing, planting and maintaining a 1-acre farm using exclusively organic methods. This position will report directly to the Director of Programs. The position oversees volunteers and interns on the farm, oversight and implementation of crop production, maintenance of farm infrastructure and as well as supporting the use of the farm by other QBG programs.

Marketing & Communications Manager

The Studio Museum in Harlem is seeking a strategic, creative, and entrepreneurial Marketing & Communications Manager with experience developing, implementing, and executing strategic marketing plans across owned, earned and paid media. Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications (DMC), the role supports the development of compelling multichannel, institutional campaigns, audience development, and revenue goals across the institution. The ideal candidate is equally creative and analytical and understands the power of storytelling in the arts. They bring traditional and digital marketing skills that will translate into impact for the Studio Museum, for the art world, and for the broader culture.

Director of Development

The Director, Development (DD) is a full-time fundraising position responsible for creating, implementing, and managing a robust fundraising plan to achieve annual contributed revenue goals for the operating fund. The DD will engage, track, and manage a portfolio of individual donors and members, corporate and foundation funders. The position will involve grant writing and management, prospect research, individual donor support and stewardship (including major gift solicitation), and support for year-round member and fundraising events, including the annual gala. Snug Harbor’s contributed revenue underwrites programs in the arts, gardens, farm, education, and workforce development.

This position reports to the Executive Vice President (EVP), who oversees fundraising, board development, government relations, and capital funding. The DD oversees a full-time Grants & Membership Coordinator. The DD will be an integral partner in Snug Harbor’s fundraising strategy, taking a lead role in growing the share of private support as part of Snug Harbor’s operating revenue. Internally, this position will interface with the President & CEO, Senior Directors of Regional Brand Experience, Community Impact, and Campus Administration, and the Board of Directors’ Development Committee. Externally, the DD will engage with funding organizations and program officers, Snug Harbor donors and members (current and prospective). Some evening and weekend work may be required.

Director of Development

Queens Botanical Garden seeks an energetic and visionary leader to be our next Director of Development. The Director of Development is responsible for annually raising approximately $4M from public and private sources and secures additional funds to support critical capital projects spanning the Garden’s 39-acre campus. Working with the Executive Director, Board of Trustees, and key staff leaders, the Director of Development devises and executes fundraising strategies to advance the ambitious ideas articulated in the Strategic and Master Plans and annual operating budget. The Director of Development leads the four-person Development team to success in meeting fundraising goals through institutional giving, individual giving, membership, and special events. In addition to providing leadership and strategy, the Director is also an active front-line fundraiser who directly contributes to institutional and individual fundraising efforts, including grant writing, ongoing stewardship, and major gift solicitation. They are a passionate advocate for the Garden’s work to engage the public through inspiring gardens, innovative educational programs, and real-world applications of environmental stewardship. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced fundraising environment which demands exceptional written and oral communications skills and enthusiastically collaborate with other organizational leaders to generate and execute new programmatic and capital initiatives.

Digital Content & Social Media, Senior Coordinator

As the Studio Museum prepares to open its new purpose-built museum in the center of Harlem, the Museum seeks a skilled, creative, and entrepreneurial Digital Content and Social Media, Senior Coordinator with experience developing social media campaigns and telling compelling stories across digital platforms. This role will be responsible for collaboratively supporting and executing, results-driven digital content and all of the Museum’s social media accounts and email channels with the goal of building new audiences while connecting meaningfully to the Museum’s local, national, and global community. Reporting to the Associate Director of Digital Marketing & Communications, this role supports storytelling, content creation, audience development, and revenue goals across the institution.

Senior Vice President of Operations

The New York Hall of Science seeks an experienced Senior Vice President of Operations (SVP) to oversee museum operations and drive operational excellence. This senior leadership role ensures the seamless operation of NYSCI’s facilities and physical campus, capital projects, IT and Visitor Services. Successful candidates will demonstrate dynamic and strategic leadership, commitment to best-in-class service and a proven track record of effective operations and business ethics in a Museum/Cultural Institution/Science center setting.

The SVP is a change agent who will prioritize inclusive processes, boost collaboration across organizational units and build strong business relationships with senior staff, vendors, supporters, and peer institutions. This role is a member of the senior leadership team and reports to the President and CEO.

Compost Outreach & Education Coordinator

The Outreach & Education Coordinator is primarily responsible for coordinating and delivering education and outreach in Queens; maintaining and building partnerships with community compost sites and the FSDO network; leading workshops and trainings; managing volunteers; overseeing interns, and providing support for compost distribution and other operational events. This person must track all their activities and efforts and submit data to the Project Manager in pre-defined quantitative or narrative format as needed. The Outreach & Education Coordinator reports to the Compost Project Manager.

Curator
