The Associate Development Officer is a skillful, detail-oriented, frontline fundraiser. Through the Museum’s Membership program and patron groups, the Associate Development Officer (ADO) personally identifies, engages, cultivates, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of individuals to support the mission of the Brooklyn Museum. Reporting to the Development Officer, Individual Giving, the ADO will support the Individual Giving and Major Gifts team in all fundraising needs, with a special focus on the Museum’s six patron groups. The Brooklyn Museum seeks a focused and detail-oriented Research Assistant for Textiles for a full-time two-year position to undertake cataloging, research, and reporting related to the Museum’s European and American textile collections. The candidate will work closely with the curators of Decorative Arts and Design to identify collection objects suitable for retention, display, and deaccession; write reports; prepare presentations; and conduct historical and art historical research. The Research Assistant will also aid in compiling possible institutions and auction houses for transfer of deaccessioned works.
A successful candidate must be detail-oriented and a creative thinker, with the ability to multitask. They should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a demonstrated ability to be well organized, and superlative research skills. The candidate should have extensive coursework in textiles, knowledge of the history of textiles (especially eighteenth- and nineteenth-century European and American textiles), and experience handling textiles.

The Director of Development Operations is a vital team leader and strategist, an expert in designing and managing systems, and a key member of the Development team who instills best practices in the science of fundraising. They are involved in a wide range of tasks, from daily activities to special long- and short-term projects that advance the functioning of a strong, effective Development department.
The Director of Development Operations liaises with the Finance department and monitors all systems to support Development’s donor management, analytical, and financial tracking functions. This position offers a unique opportunity to help lead the Museum’s strategic direction and shape our fundraising goals through harnessing data and other strategic insights. A core mandate for the Director of Development Operations is to centralize a suite of activity that is currently spread across the Development team and other key departments (acknowledgment letters, gift entries, reports, and data pulls, e.g.).

The Museum Maintainer / Art Handler for Collections will be part of a team in the Registration and Collections Management department, handling art in the collections and assisting with storage initiatives. They will work closely with the Registration and Collections Management and Conservation teams in supporting the Museum’s collection-related activities.

This role oversees the Museum’s accounting operations, including the quarterly close process, annual financial reports, annual audit process, ongoing maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls to mitigate risk. This role is unlike that of a typical controller as the Brooklyn Museum Finance team is undergoing a period of transformation, including significant changes to the chart of accounts and system upgrades to support a more automated process. Teams that support the Museum’s critical infrastructure are rapidly evolving ahead of our two hundredth anniversary and as we kick off major capital projects over the next several years. This is a key role to help develop new processes, coach a team of accountants, and have meaningful access to senior leadership. This role will manage a team of senior accountants.
A typical day for this role might include meeting about our chart of accounts with external CRM partner Tessitura, meeting with our external auditors about annual audit timelines, reviewing accounting entries in preparation for quarterly close, attending the weekly Museum directors meeting, and discussing the annual inventory audit with the Director of Merchandising.

The Museum’s rentals program raises revenue by renting Museum spaces for corporate parties, award ceremonies, galas, weddings, and film and photo shoots. The department also oversees a select number of reduced-rate rentals for community partners and nonprofit groups, including government agencies, local schools, and community organizations.

The Graphic Designer plays an integral role in the Brooklyn Museum’s Graphic Design Department. The designer is responsible for conceptualizing and designing innovative and compelling design for exhibitions, wayfinding, signage, publications, and print and digital projects, while maintaining and exploring the museum’s visual language in close collaboration with the other members of the design team.
Working in a highly collaborative studio setting, this role works on projects in all stages of the design process to support overall attendance and revenue goals, improve the visitors experience, and expand upon the Museum’s design language across visitor touch points.

The Photographer creates high-resolution digital images of objects in the museum’s permanent collection, libraries, archives, and exhibition installations for the purpose of documentation and in support of publications, marketing and promotion of exhibitions, graphic and exhibition design, merchandising, commercial partnerships, digital audience engagement projects, and external reproduction requests.

This is a two-year term position with the Objects Conservation team and the Curator of Egyptian, Classical, and Ancient Near Eastern Art, under the direction of the Conservator of Objects.
