QBG’s Youth Programs bring together youngsters ages 2 to 18 from around New York City to enjoy seasonal, hands-on learning and gardening experiences year-round. Our young gardeners explore concepts of ecological balance, sustainability, and conservation as they learn how to prepare soil, select seeds and plants, and care for and later harvest their own vegetables, flowers, and herbs that they turn into nutritious and delicious snacks in the classroom. We explore these concepts at age-appropriate levels throughout each season. We strive to create an immersive experience in all programs- a blend of structured and freeform exploration designed to provide children with the support they need to express their natural curiosity.
The Outreach & Education Coordinator is primarily responsible for coordinating and delivering education and outreach in Queens; maintaining and building partnerships with community compost sites and the FSDO network; leading workshops and trainings; managing volunteers; overseeing interns, and providing support for compost distribution and other operational events. This person must track all their activities and efforts and submit data to the Project Manager in pre-defined quantitative or narrative format as needed. The Outreach & Education Coordinator reports to the Compost Project Manager.

About This Role
The Youth Programs Coordinator will support the Youth Programs Manager in all aspects of the Children’s Garden (age 4-10) & Junior Naturalist (age 10-13) programs throughout the spring & summer. This includes general day-to-day oversight of programs, instructors, and children, plus garden care. Programs take place in the Children’s Garden and World Farm, which include 35+ raised beds, and some in-ground planting areas.

The Education Manager (EM) is an enthusiastic, polished, detail-oriented professional playing a crucial role on the Community Impact team. Community Impact team (CI team) provides access to an open-site, offers not-to-be-missed, transformative experiences, and maintains reliable, consistent service. The highest priority is ensuring a positive visitor experience for diverse audiences. Education provides programming to students, seniors, tourists, and any group that services curious minds. While acting as a liaison with patrons, programming and security staff, the position is responsible for programs, staff scheduling and site-wide activations. The EM plays a crucial role in developing the learning agendas for staff and patrons, supervising the education team, maintaining and increasing professionalism and providing operational support. The EM is responsible for purchasing, payments, and invoice reconciliations for programs. The position also works with the Service Learning Coordinator to expand Snug Harbor’s volunteer program with a goal of increasing organizational capacity, developing skill sets and expertise throughout the community, and improving patron experience. The Education Manager reports to the Senior Director, Community Impact (SDCI).

This position is an opportunity for new and recent PhD or EdD recipients to learn about museum practice, gain experience cultivating research partnerships with educators, designers, youth, and community members, and broaden their understanding of how high-quality informal STEM learning experiences can be designed, developed and implemented to serve diverse audiences. NYSCI created this postdoctoral fellowship program to work toward the vision described by Dr. Alonda Nelson, the Deputy Director for Science and Society at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, who asserted that researchers “often want to use their skills to serve their communities, to serve as bridges between experts and community members in collaborative research, using everything they know about both science and their own communities to learn and discover together” (OSTP, 2022). This fellowship will support postdoctoral researchers in building, sustaining, and learning from productive, mutually beneficial partnerships with practitioners in informal STEM learning environments and the intersectionally diverse publics they serve. Postdoctoral Fellows will work with individuals with a wide range of perspectives and areas of expertise to conceptualize, define, and pursue research agendas focused on equitable approaches to informal STEM learning. The position requires curiosity, an interest in applied and collaborative research methods, and strong organizational, listening and writing skills.
The Science Programs Assistant is responsible for the development and implementation of onsite and offsite educational programs for students, families and teachers including group workshops, outreaches, after school programs and other education programs as assigned. The Science Coach Coordinator provides programmatic leadership and support in the development and expansion of NYSCI’s science coach model. NYSCI uses science coaching to transform and improve STEM teaching and learning within schools or after school programs through intensive professional learning experiences and STEM engagement experiences for students and parents that strengthens connections between formal and informal learning. The Science Coach Coordinator will be responsible for collaborating with internal and external partners and supporting NYSCI’s Pre-K STEM Enrichment program in partnership with NYCDOE as well as other educational initiatives within the portfolio of projects assigned to the Science Coaching division. These may include developing and delivering rigorous educational experiences and STEM resources for K-12th grade students, teachers and families.

The Professional Development Manager will maximize the breath and quality of current training programs and help expand professional development resources to a larger audience.
The Professional Development Manager reports to the Director of Programs and works in conjunction with education and other Garden staff. The PD Manager is responsible for the management and facilitation of professional development for participating Urban Advantage teachers. The PD Manager will partner with the Department of Education (DOE) and other organizations on items such as the development, coordination and teaching of P-credit classes and other professional development opportunities. The PD Manager may teach environmental workshops provided by QBG and provide horticultor and education support throughout the education department as needed.
The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York City is one of the premier science research and cultural institutions in the country. The American Museum of Natural History is seeking five (5) experienced Educators to perform a variety of teaching and program design responsibilities as a part of the Children and Family Learning division of the Department of Education. Responsible for a variety of programs that serve children of ages 2-10 and their caregivers, the CFL division oversees the administration of summer camp programming, after school events, multi-year science enrichment programs, large scale family outreach festivals, and the Museum’s Discovery Room exhibit when needed.
The CFL Educator will deliver informal science programming spanning a wide variety of physical and natural science topics and in a range of learning environments. Teaching in after school, weekend, and camp programs as needed, the CFL Educator must rely on adaptive teaching styles that respond to the needs of a diverse cross-section of program participants and integrate assets of the Museum (e.g using Museum Halls and collections to support learning).
